Em Flach
Whilst he was studying Classical Piano at the Conservatorium of Music, Justin Hunter began writing vastly different songs in a small cafe in his hometown of Katoomba. Creating such a different sound from his classical repertoire, Justin decided to go by the moniker of Em Flach - inspired by his grandmother from the Netherlands - and it was under this alias that Justin scored his first major hit. “Your Love” with DJ Kid Kenobi soared to number 7 on the ARIA club charts, garnering millions of plays online. Since then, Em Flach has played keys for Perth sensation Ta-Ku and collaborated with some of the country's strongest vocalists, such as Jace XL.
Last year, Em Flach released his debut EP #LDKS, the first time Justin presented us with a refreshing melodic blend of modern hip-hop, down-tempo beats and piano, ultimately creating a sound for the new age.
Following this EP, Em Flach released “Day Drift” with fellow Blue Mountains artists Finbar and Kearna, garnering over 100,000 streams on the track. Em Flach began reflecting on his family, past and present, as he was travelling around the world, coincidentally meeting and eventually collaborating with Swedish MC Marco DeLeaf, an artist who was in the process of writing a deeply personal song about the loss of his sister. That song became Em Flach’s latest release “Changes.”
Now back in his hometown, Em Flach is continuing to create new soundscapes of his inspiring landscape: the Blue Mountains.
