Ona Mota
A provocative madness inviting the listener to drown in shared chaos, Ona Mota’s left-field take on disco is as saucy and woozy as it gets. The Warrang (Sydney) based six-piece share a rich history, with some friendships dating back to preschool. While each member has separate stories and styles, their mutual passion for experimentation, innovation, and beauty has resulted in a strangely satisfying artistic symbiosis. It’s this connection that has allowed Ona Mota to become a crucial mental health and artistic outlet for its members.
Written in the basement of an art gallery, new single “Dance With U” picks up where their debut single “My Body” left off, in a concerted effort to ‘look into the mirror’ through their music. Produced by Matthew Hadley (Total Giovanni, Methyl Ethyl), the track opens with a brief intro played on a Suiko – an obscure synthesizer traditionally used to play Japanese classical music – before entering into drunken grooves. Frontman Sep Pourbozorgi’s swaggering melodies are the perfect accompaniment, enticing the boogie out of the listener.
